Croatian Association of Dental Studens (CROADS)
Croatian Association of Dental Studens for International Activities and Exchange, known as CROADS, is an organization of dental medicine
students founded in Rijeka in 2003. Participating in student projects is a great way of getting to know your colleagues and your future profession. All members of the Association receive a certificate of their membership, and participants of certain projects get volunteer hours as well, which can be used when applying for scholarships, student housing and residency, thus adding to Your diploma (Diploma Supplement) and resume. Furthermore, by being part of the Association, you gain experience in teamwork and working with people which helps you practice for future interactions with patients. 1. Student Journal “Fissura”
‘’Fissura’’ is a journal made and written by students from the Faculty of Dental Medicine in Rijeka, which brings its readers novelties from the world of dental medicine. It has been published continuously since 2015, and the ninth edition will soon follow! You can use it as a reader as additional literature or you can write your own articles, thus enriching your knowledge and skills of professional and scientific expression. The editorial team organizes a free online workshop on writing professional articles “Express yourself professionally” and a workshop in how to us the Turnitin system. As part of the editorial team, you earn a certificate of membership in editing and as an author you get a certificiate of autorship and an officialy recongized article.

2. Workshops for Kids “Četko Pastić”
“Četko Pastić” is a project of preventive workshops for children, where our youngest learn about the importance of maintaining oral hygiene and how to do it. This project has a new name since 2019, but was earlier known as the “Tooth Fairy’’. The participants of this project visit kindergartens and schools where they conduct workshops. All volunteers receive a certificate of participation in the project and registered volunteer hours!

3. Student Congress “RiCON”
“RiCON” is a congress of dental medicine students in Rijeka that brings together colleagues from all over Croatia and the wider region. Congress participants listen to lectures on the latest innovations in dental medicine and on workshops they practice skills that will be of great use to them in their everyday work. The first edition of RiCON was held in 2013, and after a long break, the third RiCON was held at the beginning of this academic year. There
are many ways you can participatein the organization of the congress – visual design, creating and conducting workshops, photography, assembling gift bags, arranging lectures, etc. All project organizers receive a certificate of participation in the project and registered volunteer hours!

4. Exchanges (EDSA, IADS, Erasmus)
All members of CROADS can participate in the exchanges offered by the European Dental Students’ Association (EDSA), International Association of Dental Students (IADS) and the Eramsus+ project. Exchanges provide an unforgettable experience during which you can learn something new and get acquainted with great colleagues from all over the world! Other than going on an exchange, you can be part of the Organizing Team for the exchange program that we organize in Rijeka in July. Spend 10 days with foreign colleagues in the best clinics in Rijeka and explore everything that the Croatian coast has to offer! All organizers receive a certificate of participation in the project and registered volunteer hours!

5. Workshops for students “STUDENT“
“STUDENT” is a project of preventive workshops for students in Rijeka in which our peers learn about the importance of maintaining oral hygiene and how to do it. This is the FIRST preventive dentistry project in Croatia that targets the student population. In addition to talking about oral hygiene, in the second part of the workshop, we will discuss popular topics such as teeth whitening, aesthetic veneers, hyaluronic dermal fillers, etc. This is a great opportunity to meet students from other faculties and maybe get some patients for Restaurative Dentistry. All volunteers receive a certificate of participation in the project and registered volunteer hours! As this is a new project, the name and logo of the project have not been defined yet, so in addition to members, we are also accepting suggestions for the name and
logo of the project!

6. Professional workshops
The new project of professional workshops is designed so that the students of our Faculty could more easily improve their professional skills, as well as learn some new skills. Workshop participants will take short courses that deal with dental and non-dental topics, all of which will be of great help in future clinical work. The first planned workshops are “Basic Course of Croatian Sign Language” and “Understanding CBCT images”.Students organize their own workshops depending on their wishes! All project organizers will receive a certificate of participation in the project and registered volunteer hours!

7. Workshops for elders “GerontoRi”
“GerontoRi” is a project of preventive workshops for elderly people. Students go to nursing homes and teach the elderly about the importance of oral hygiene and the ways to do it, with an emphasis on the maintenance of prosthodontic appliances. All volunteers will receive a certificate of participation in the project and registered volunteer hours!
